New iTunes Last.fm Tagger Beta
Once again, I've made some improvements to the itunes tagger. This is version 2.1, and a lot of the features are still experimental. This program now uses last.fm api version 2.0. Which among other things, means that the program is now able to make api 5 times the amount of calls per second (which increases the tagger significantly). Here's the two new experimental features:
Tagging from the system tray:
The program now implements a quick authentication feature, and allows you to tag songs via the tray icon and submit the changes to last.fm. It only submits any tags that were modified or added. Here's a screenshot:
Similar Tracks Playlists:
This new page allows you to create playlists that are similar to the selected tracks in itunes. There are 3 sliders that allow you to adjust the types of tracks to be included in the playlist.
As always, let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement in these comments or email me.

Hi there,
I just looking for some help on getting metadata from the last.fm (directly from the program, not from the user web profile).
Does your program gets this data from the lastfm program? (program I mean the windows scrobbler).
) project that show up like a karaoke lyric. I’m using the ActiveWinamp to comunicate to winamp and get the current track metadata. But there are many others players, so I decided try lastfm
I’m on a lyrik (not lyric
Sorry for my bad English ^^’

@Willian: no, this program does not use the last.fm scrobbling program in any way. It does use a last.fm-produced fingerprinting client that is included in the zip file, but other than that I just retrieve data from the last.fm api.

Tkz anyway
And, you are fast to answer xD

So close to exactly what I’ve been dreaming of. Only a few wish list items
Grouping – could I have an option to add the tags to this itunes field?
Could I have an option to add, say the top 3 tags from last.fm with a separator. I.e.
“.indie.rock.british.” hope you get my idea.

Is this project still being maintained? I saw on the forum for the 2.0 software that there were some footprinting issues?
I’m not sure what’s wrong, but it is only tagging some of my songs. I thought that it was an obscurity issue, but i looked at the songs on last.fm and most of the one’s that went untagged had tags on the website. Sometimes it helps to select fewer songs, but sometimes not.
Thank you for your work on this project, it is a stellar idea!

This project is semi-maintained. I fix issues when I have the time, but that may take a few weeks/months. If you are having problems with this release, I’d recommend also trying out the older version that isn’t in beta (click here)
Failing that, you can send me an email with your error.log file if there is one.

Thanks for the quick reply! There’s no error.log, but I’ve started tagging with artist data, which does work for most tracks and is better than nothing. It would be great for the program to default to artist data if individual song tags aren’t available, but for now I’m just doing a cycle with song tags, then check “skip previously tagged tracks,” and run a second cycle with artist data. Again thank you for all of the work you’ve put into this program!

Hello.
I first tried your non beta version, and then this beta version of your itunes tagger beta. I’m currently running Windows XP SP2. It seems every time i try running the executable of either the non beta or beta version, it tells me that there was an error, and wants to send information about it to microsoft. there seems to be no way to actually run the program. All i did was unzip with WinRAR to the desktop, and then run the program from the “itunes-tagger-beta-2.1″ folder, as is.
I just thought I’d mention this, since no one else seems to have this problem : /
thanks though!

EB4, do you have the .NET Framework installed (2.0+)?
May 14th, 2009 - 17:39
Thank you! This is just what I’ve been looking for!
have a small problem though. Your software will only tag my songs that have track or artist info that only contains letters a-z and/or numbers 0-9… if the fields contain any other characters e.g. ‘().,- etc the song will not be tagged. Is this a known problem? This is an issue for both versions of your software.

I have understood what was wrong (I wrote about my problems in iTunes Last.FM Tagger 2.0 page).
))
It was Russian language in Itunes.
In English all works perfectly.
Have 2 questions:
1) can you include changing of itunes tagger window’s size?
2) are you going to do the same plug-in for winamp?
it would be great!
Thank’s a lot!

your tool seems to be just the thing i’m looking for but i always get ‘no tracks selected’ in both versions – i’m running itunes 9 already and saw someone else mentioning the same problem.
any idea or fix for that?

with itunes 9.0.1 it is working again!!!!
September 27th, 2009 - 14:03
Hey, nice update. Looks like it’s working faster than ever.
One note: Seems like it’s pulling more than the top five tags? Might be a bit much, now all my songs from any given band are tagged with “awesome” or “greatest band evar,” which makes it tougher to distinguish what’s actually considered good by the Last.fm community.

ok, I installed the Beta version, opened iTunes, entered about four files (just to see exactly what it would do), now I can’t find those files anymore in my iTunes library list. So what happened? And how do I uninstall it (because I hate buggy programs)?
